Demons vs Angels

October 20 saw the Fallen battle the Pure for a chance to be let back into the pearly game written and run by “Spike” Harlow, “Jet” Chapman, and Vic “Victum" of Team BeBop. Black River Paintball in Coates, North Carolina, was kind enough to host the event at their field. The angels were led by Dwayne “Saint” of Team Krisis, while the Demons were led by Phil “Morph” Burns of Staggering Mayhem. Spirits were high on that sunny Saturday as the combatants took their respective sides of the field. Their goals were to defeat each other and gain valuable props to learn more about each other. This would all prove to be harder than either general imagined.

Saint's first act was to send his cherubs, all his young gunners, on the very first mission. Whether or not it was intended to throw the Demons off guard, it did look spooky watching all those little guys running across the field. The Angels worked their heavenly powers on controlling the field while the Demons fought with the fires of Hades to push them out. The fight continued furiously most of the day. The Demons held a line at the tower field wood line. They just couldn’t push past that point while the Angels hammered at them.

At the lunch break, the Angels had retrieved the Ark of the Covenant and convinced Cerberus to guard it for them. They also recovered one of the two super weapons. One was Death’s sickle and the other was the Devil’s pitchfork. These items would later be very important. The Angels were ahead at this point by a couple of missions, although the Demon leader seemed confident he would win.

The battle raged on and both sides fought the dying of the light. Then, before the final battle, the generals faced off. At stake was the second super weapon. As the story unfolded, we found that these weapons would be the only things able to eliminate the generals during the final battle. Later being replaced with Tiberious pistols, they would each have eight shots and each shot or general kill was worth 20 points. The face-off was won by Saint, giving him possession of both super weapons and virtual invincibility for the final battle.

The final battle was staged at the tower field. The two objectives were to have as many forces in the center tower as possible by the end of the game and to eliminate the general. It was a massive battle that found LAW rockets and grenades flying across the field. It also had many of the Angels finding the Demons' arguments worthwhile and defecting to fight alongside them.

For 40 minutes, control wavered from Demons to Angels and back again. In the last few fleeting moments, the Demons made an awesome push and took control of the center tower, holding it with more than 18 players to win the final battle. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to pull the win. Regardless, players left the field smiling and many walked away with amazing prizes awarded by both Team BeBop and Black River, who gave away more than 20 markers and along with the certificates provided by BeBop, presented trophies to the MVT’s of each side, making this truly an event worth remembering.
